Directors of Photography say ...

DAVID PARER “Your custom built units have been very reliable over 2 years of very hard use in both topside and underwater cameras. We have used them exclusively on both the SR11 HS & the SR1 from boats, underwater, on the tops of volcanos and the calderas of volcanos; under all sorts of heat, humidity, and dust conditions and not once have they failed."

"The added bonus is the time lapse facility that has proved invaluable for us particularly on the SR1. With this camera we can do both normal single frame time lapse with a selected interval and also time exposure time lapse for night use or moving landscapes such as sea, waves, tides & wind blown vegetation to blur the movement & smooth it out. Underwater we are using it on the Pace Technologies Super 16 SR1 housing. For this the Computach had to be halved in size with minimum loss of facilities, and this you have achieved.”

MARK GILFEDDER (Silver Brumby, Jindalee Lady, Checkers, Rainbow’s End, In Too Deep, A Country Practice , 30 hrs) has also used the Computach extensively in rugged conditions, including the Silver Brumby shoot in the Snowy Mountains. “The Computach did a way with numerous separate camera control units and allowed me as the Cinematographer ‘peace of mind’. The Computach provided many camera functions in all ways better than the individual control items. When we realised how good the Computach was, we bolted it permanently to the camera, where it endured a very rugged shoot in harsh environments. The Computach was used on almost every shot in The Silver Brumby, as most shots required a frame rate between 32fps and 120fps. For High Speed the Computach ramped the camera’s speed more gently than the other VSU’s, got to speed faster and maintained crystal accuracy, even at 120fps. The Computach enabled me to get the best shot of the film, where ‘in camera’ the frame rate began at 24fps and was slowly increased to 120fps ... the close up of Russel Crowe towards the end of the film".

IAN JONES (Babe, Pig In The City, Russia House, Clear And Present Danger, Water Rats) has used the Computach extensively during his years as an underwater and Steadicam Operator. He describes it as “an ideal tool for Steadicam, as it is compact, sturdy and portable”. He liked the fact that he could control filming from above the water, but also had control access under the water. He needed to change speeds frequently with absolute reliability (most often from HMI speed, 24/25, to 33.333). The crystal accuracy of Computach was an absolute necessity.” All these film makers also praised the Computach’s technical accuracy, ability to be customised and all round dependability.
